WonderBiotics vs UltraFlora Control: Which B420 Fits You?
WonderBiotics vs Metagenics UltraFlora Control: Two B420 Approaches Compared

UltraFlora Control (Metagenics) and WonderBiotics Probiotics for Weight Management both build around the same clinically studied strain, Bifidobacterium lactis B420. UltraFlora Control delivers B420 alone at 10 billion CFU. WonderBiotics pairs B420 with seven more probiotic strains, the prebiotic fiber polydextrose, and two non-probiotic actives, at 20 billion CFU across the eight strains. The main difference is whether you want B420 delivered alone or as part of a broader, multi-ingredient formula.
What's Inside Each Formula
Here's the label-level comparison, based on current product labels and retailer listings.1, 2, 3, 6, 7

UltraFlora Control's ingredient panel is short by design: the B420 strain plus the inactive ingredients microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica, delivered in a hydroxypropylmethylcellulose capsule. There are no additional active ingredients.2 WonderBiotics includes seven additional bacterial strains studied across general gut-health and immune-support outcomes, the prebiotic fiber polydextrose blended in with the probiotic strains, plus dihydroberberine and a lemon extract standardized to eriocitrin. Those last two ingredients sit outside the probiotic category, and each has its own separate published human research in glycemic and metabolic markers, distinct from the probiotic-strain evidence.11, 12
Same Strain, Same Trial: What the B420 Evidence Shows
Both companies point to the same underlying trial when they talk about B420 and weight: Stenman and colleagues' 2016 randomized controlled trial in EBioMedicine.3, 8 That trial tested B420 as a daily powder mixed into a smoothie, not as a capsule, and it didn't test either finished product sold today. Still, because both products deliver the same strain, the trial's findings, and its limits, are the closest available evidence for both.
The trial randomized 225 overweight and obese adults into four arms (placebo, a prebiotic fiber alone, B420 alone at 10 billion CFU/day, and B420 plus fiber) over six months.8 In the intention-to-treat analysis (n=209), the prespecified primary endpoint, relative change in body fat mass, showed no significant difference across the four groups (overall ANCOVA P=0.46).8 In the smaller per-protocol population (n=134, with three further excluded from this specific DXA analysis), B420 plus fiber showed a significant reduction versus placebo (about −4.5%, P=0.02), while B420 taken alone did not (−3.0%, P=0.28).8
The number most often quoted in marketing, roughly −4.0% body fat with P=0.002, comes from a post-hoc, two-way ANCOVA analysis that the authors ran after treatment allocation had been unblinded. It estimated the combined effect of B420 by comparing the two B420-containing arms against the two non-B420 arms.8 That result was statistically significant, but it came from this post-hoc analysis run after unblinding, not the trial's prespecified, group-by-group comparison, so it isn't the same as saying B420 alone beat placebo in the trial's primary analysis. The trial was fully funded by DuPont, which developed and commercializes the B420 strain (now through IFF Health), and DuPont employees were among the study authors.8, 13
B420 has been tested in this human RCT, not only in rodent models. But whether you're reading a single-strain label or a multi-strain one, the same caveat applies: the widely cited −4.0% figure comes from a post-hoc analysis run after unblinding, not the trial's prespecified primary result.
Single-Strain vs Multi-Strain: Which Formula Fits Your Priorities?
UltraFlora Control gives you B420 alone at 10 billion CFU, with no other probiotic strains or active ingredients in the capsule. If you or your practitioner want to isolate that one variable at the exact dose used in the human trial, or you're layering supplements and want any change you see attributable to a single ingredient, that's what a single-strain formula is for.
We built WonderBiotics Probiotics for Weight Management differently, because most people asking about a probiotic for weight also care about regularity, bloating, and general gut balance, not just the specific outcomes studied with B420. That's why we combined B420 with seven additional strains studied across broader digestive and immune outcomes, the prebiotic fiber polydextrose, and dihydroberberine plus a lemon extract standardized to eriocitrin.
Because our label reports 20 billion CFU across eight strains rather than a strain-by-strain breakdown, the B420-specific amount isn't disclosed, so you can't confirm whether it matches the trial's 10-billion-CFU dose. If your priority is replicating the exact single-strain dose from the clinical trial, UltraFlora Control's simpler design solves for that more directly. WonderBiotics is built for broader strain diversity and additional metabolic-support ingredients alongside B420 in one daily capsule.
Price and Practical Differences
UltraFlora Control has traditionally used a practitioner-oriented distribution model: sold through chiropractors, naturopaths, and integrative medicine clinics, often requiring a practitioner account or referral code. It's also stocked by independent third-party retailers, where the 30-capsule bottle is typically priced in the high-$40s to low-$50s.4, 5
WonderBiotics sells directly to consumers through its own site and Amazon, with the list price for a 30-capsule bottle in the mid-to-high $50s and subscription or promotional pricing frequently bringing it into the mid-$40s.6, 7 Both products land in a similar per-bottle range once discounts are factored in.
Before You Start Either One, Loop In Your Doctor
Probiotics, single-strain or multi-strain, are a supporting tool, not a treatment. A ClinicalTrials.gov search found only one registered trial testing a probiotic alongside, not in place of, a GLP-1 medication: NCT07213323. It hasn't started recruiting, and the registry doesn't specify which probiotic strain it will test, so neither of these B420 products has direct evidence in people taking semaglutide or tirzepatide.9 Probiotics are generally considered safe for most healthy adults, though safety reporting in clinical trials remains limited.10 If you're on a GLP-1 drug, managing a chronic condition, immunosuppressed, or have a central line, talk to your doctor before adding any probiotic, and never stop or adjust a prescription medication based on a supplement.10 The remaining decision is whether you want B420 delivered alone or as part of a broader formula.
