Which Probiotic Brand Helps Menopause Belly and Cravings?

Best Probiotic Products for Menopause Belly and Cravings: A Brand Shortlist

Scientific cover image for Best Probiotic Products for Menopause Belly and Cravings

WonderBiotics and Provitalize are the two products here built around a probiotic strain with real, published human trial data. MenoFit's own label doesn't name its strains, so any weight-related evidence tied to them is reported, not confirmed. O Positiv MENO, despite turning up constantly in "best menopause supplement" searches, contains no probiotic and isn't formulated for belly fat or cravings. None of the four reverses menopause weight gain on its own.

Strains, doses, and prices below come from each brand's own product page as of September 2026; a few CFU figures come from retailer listings or the NIH's label database where a brand's own page text doesn't show a number.

O Positiv MENO earns a spot here even though it isn't a probiotic, because it turns up next to weight- and craving-focused products in nearly every "best menopause supplement" search. A shopper scanning a shelf of MENO- and URO-style bundles could reasonably assume they're interchangeable; they aren't, and that mismatch is worth spelling out before you buy the wrong one for belly fat or cravings.

WonderBiotics is our own product.

Why Menopause Turns Up Belly Fat and Cravings at the Same Time

Body composition changes during menopause are well documented in longitudinal cohort data. In the SWAN Heart cohort, visceral fat accumulation ran roughly 8.2% per year (7.86% adjusted) in the two years immediately before a woman's final period, versus about 4.5% per year further past menopause9. A separate SWAN analysis found total body fat gain roughly doubling, from about 1.0% to 1.7% per year, across the menopause transition, while lean mass simultaneously flattens or dips10.

Cravings have a plausible hormonal thread but a thinner evidence base than belly fat does. Estrogen appears to inhibit food intake in animal and human research, and one review of sex hormones and eating behavior notes that estrogen therapy has, in some studies, blunted the weight and abdominal-fat gain associated with the menopause transition8. That's a mechanistic reason why appetite and food thoughts can feel louder in your 40s and 50s; it isn't evidence that any supplement, probiotic or otherwise, quiets them. Semaglutide's own STEP 5 trial included a secondary subgroup analysis using a validated Control of Eating Questionnaire (88 people on semaglutide, 86 on placebo) that found significant improvement in self-reported craving control at weeks 20, 52, and 104, not multiplicity-corrected, but a direct craving measurement13. None of the three probiotic products below has a trial that measured cravings that directly; the closest is a secondary, self-reported calorie-intake finding from the B420 trial, described next.

WonderBiotics Probiotics for Weight Management

This formula is built around eight clinically studied strains, anchored by Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis B420, the same strain tested in a 225-person, six-month randomized trial that measured body fat change by DXA scan5. The Metabolic Blend (dihydroberberine plus a lemon extract standardized to eriocitrin, marketed as Eriomin® (lemon extract)) is there because a separate small trial of that same branded extract found a within-group GLP-1 increase of 17% during the Eriomin® (lemon extract) period in adults with elevated fasting glucose; GLP-1 is one of the hormones involved in feeling satisfied after eating11.

In the B420 trial, the primary intent-to-treat analysis, the one researchers designed the study to answer, showed no significant difference in body fat change across groups (P=0.46); the trial was funded by DuPont Nutrition & Health, which was also involved in the protocol and interpretation, and five of fifteen authors were DuPont employees5. In a secondary analysis, participants taking B420 alone reported roughly 320 fewer calories per day in a self-reported 5-day food diary within a smaller per-protocol subset; the trial's primary endpoint was body fat by DXA, and the study never measured hunger, satiety, or GLP-1 directly5. The Eriomin® (lemon extract) trial behind the Metabolic Blend randomized 45 adults with elevated fasting glucose (30 completed both crossover periods); glucose, not GLP-1, was its prespecified primary outcome, GLP-1 was secondary, and the study wasn't testing weight loss or a menopausal population. The paper itself reports no conflict of interest and states its funder, Ingredients by Nature, had no role in the study11. The dihydroberberine pilot behind the same blend is smaller still: five healthy men, funded by NNB Nutrition, with one author serving as a paid NNB adviser who helped design and analyze the study, and glucose and insulin measures that didn't differ significantly across doses12.

B420's own results were mixed: null on the trial's primary endpoint; not significant in the predefined per-protocol comparison of B420 alone against placebo (P=0.28); significant in the predefined per-protocol comparison of B420 plus fiber against placebo (P=0.02); and significant again in a post-hoc analysis that pooled both B420-containing arms (P=0.002). B420 remains one of the few strains marketed for weight support with actual human trial data on body composition, unlike a lot of single-ingredient "belly fat" blends on store shelves. The formula is positioned as a companion to diet, activity, and, where relevant, GLP-1 therapy, not a replacement for any of them.

Best for: women who want a menopause-and-weight formula built with GLP-1 users in mind, and who are comfortable treating "the largest single trial of the four, with real caveats" as the evidence standard rather than a guarantee.

WonderBiotics Probiotics for Weight Management

Provitalize

Provitalize leans on Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055, the strain tested in two Japanese RCTs that measured visceral and subcutaneous fat by CT scan, with authors on both papers affiliated with the company that owned the strain at the time (Snow Brand Milk Products, a predecessor of today's Megmilk Snow Brand)6,7. In the 2010 trial, 87 adults were randomized to fermented milk with or without SBT2055 (43 active, 44 control); the active group drank 100 billion CFU/day for 12 weeks and saw visceral fat drop 4.6% from baseline, a within-group change, not a between-group comparison6. The 2013 follow-up in 210 people tested two lower doses, 0.2 and 2 billion CFU/day, and found significant between-group reductions in visceral fat at both, without a clear dose-response between them7.

A 2022 NIH label-database entry put Provitalize's total at 68.2 billion CFU across the three strains, with no per-strain split; the brand's current official page doesn't publish a CFU count at all19. Either way, there's no way to confirm how much SBT2055 you're actually getting relative to the 100 billion CFU/day used in 2010 or the 0.2-2 billion CFU/day range tested in 20136,7. On cravings specifically, the brand's own product page says the formula helps women feel "less inclined to snack between meals" and supports "mindful eating," marketing language describing a mechanism story rather than a result measured in either SBT2055 trial2. PubMed doesn't show a published human RCT for its other two strain codes, B. breve IDCC 4401 and B. lactis R101-8, as of September 2026.

Best for: women drawn to the highest total CFU count of the four plus an anti-inflammatory botanical layer (turmeric, moringa) for hot flashes and bloating alongside the probiotic.

MenoFit (MenoLabs)

MenoFit's own product page describes its core as a "blend of Probiotics + Prebiotics" without naming individual strains or CFU counts anywhere in the label text. Third-party retailer listings and reviewer sites, not MenoLabs' own supplement facts panel, report the blend as B. animalis subsp. lactis 420 (the same B420 strain used in WonderBiotics), L. reuteri 1E1, L. gasseri Lg-36, and L. plantarum Lp-115, at roughly 25 billion CFU total3. Those details come only from third-party sources, not MenoLabs' own label, so treat them as reported rather than confirmed.

MenoFit's marketing centers on "Fuels Your Metabolism," hot flashes, and gut health; it doesn't make a specific cravings or belly-fat claim the way WonderBiotics and Provitalize do. It pairs its probiotic blend with red clover for isoflavones. The NIH's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that trials of red clover for menopausal hot flashes "have had inconsistent results, and some of the studies had a high risk of bias"16, a fair summary of that ingredient category generally, not a verdict on MenoFit's specific dose. As of September 2026, MenoLabs has not published a peer-reviewed clinical trial of the finished MenoFit formula.

Best for: women whose main complaint is hot flashes and low energy alongside weight, who want isoflavones and B-vitamins bundled into the same capsule as a probiotic, and who don't need a fully itemized strain-by-strain label to feel comfortable buying.

O Positiv MENO

O Positiv MENO is a hormone-free capsule built around ashwagandha (KSM-66®, 300 mg), chasteberry (40 mg), and black cohosh (40 mg), plus B6, D3, and chromium picolinate4. It contains no probiotic strains, and the brand's own product description and ingredient copy target hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and occasional sleeplessness, with no claim about weight, belly fat, or cravings4.

That's because O Positiv puts its weight- and appetite-related claims on a different product. An earlier metabolism capsule, MOTO, has been discontinued; the brand's current weight-and-metabolism formula is URO Metabolism + Probiotic, which does contain probiotic strains (B. lactis Fit™, L. gasseri, and Akkermansia muciniphila, none with CFU counts disclosed) alongside 100 mg of caffeine, chromium, and green coffee bean extract, and is marketed specifically for "appetite control & curbed cravings"20. If a search for probiotics and menopause cravings led you to O Positiv, URO is the more relevant product, not MENO.

If you're still drawn to MENO specifically for belly fat or cravings, its flagship ingredient wouldn't be a strong pick for that job either: a meta-analysis of three of the trials in the largest black cohosh review (393 women) found no significant difference from placebo on hot-flash frequency, the symptom it's actually marketed for (mean difference 0.07 flushes/day, P=0.79), out of 16 trials and 2,027 women in the review overall15. The 2023 North American Menopause Society position statement classifies black cohosh as Level I evidence and does not recommend it for vasomotor symptoms14.

Best for: women whose primary complaints are hot flashes, night sweats, and mood, who specifically don't want hormones or stimulants in the mix, and who understand this particular formula isn't built to move the needle on weight or cravings.

Match the Product to Your Symptom

  • Your main complaint is belly fat and you're on a GLP-1 medication: WonderBiotics, built around B420 and positioned as a GLP-1 companion, though it's a supplement, not a treatment for medication side effects, and GI symptoms still belong in a conversation with your prescriber.
  • You want the highest CFU count and an anti-inflammatory botanical layer: Provitalize, keeping in mind the brand doesn't disclose how much of that CFU total is the flagship strain.
  • Hot flashes and gut health matter as much as weight to you: MenoFit, with the caveat that its strain list is third-party-reported, not confirmed on the label.
  • Hot flashes, night sweats, and mood are your only real concerns, and weight or cravings aren't part of what you're solving for: O Positiv MENO is designed specifically for that symptom set. For weight or cravings, look at O Positiv's URO Metabolism + Probiotic instead.
  • Budget is the deciding factor: MenoFit's current promotional price and Provitalize both land in a similar per-day range; WonderBiotics runs slightly higher at one-time pricing but comes down with longer subscription terms.

When to Call Your Doctor Instead of Reaching for a Probiotic

Weight gain paired with unexplained fatigue, hair thinning, or heat/cold intolerance can point to a thyroid issue rather than menopause alone, and that's worth a blood test before trying any supplement. Persistent, unusual hunger alongside excessive thirst, frequent urination, or blurred vision appear on NIDDK's list of diabetes symptoms and are worth medical evaluation, not a probiotic18. If you're immunocompromised, have a central line, or are critically ill, talk to your doctor before starting any probiotic; case reports have linked probiotic use to bloodstream infections in these higher-risk groups, though the literature isn't well equipped to pin down exactly how common that is17. None of these four products is a substitute for hormone therapy, GLP-1 medication, or a conversation with your clinician about menopause symptom management, and none should be used as a reason to stop or adjust a prescribed medication on your own.

Bottom Line

WonderBiotics and Provitalize each build a weight story on top of a probiotic strain with real, published human trial data, though none of those trials tested the finished capsule, and the strain owners (DuPont for B420, Snow Brand for SBT2055) were involved in funding, designing, or interpreting the underlying research. MenoFit pairs a probiotic blend it won't itemize with red clover and B-vitamins, with no finished-product trial of its own. O Positiv MENO addresses hot flashes and mood, not weight or cravings; for those, URO Metabolism + Probiotic is O Positiv's actual entry. Which of the four makes sense depends less on the label's total CFU count than on which specific symptom, belly fat, cravings, or hot flashes, is driving the search in the first place.
