Search online and you will find products promising dramatic results, skeptics dismissing probiotics entirely, and research papers describing modest but real effects. Sorting through this requires looking at what the studies actually show.

The short answer is yes, specific probiotic strains have been shown in human clinical trials to reduce body fat, including fat around the abdomen. The longer answer is that the effects are moderate, they take time, and they depend entirely on choosing the right strain at the right dose.
